A few days ago I took a ride on the subway...
On a "Golden Gate" station (Kiev, Ukraine), a man got jammed between the doors. People were asking for a long time, "Please let go of the door!". I was thinking that the man had a slow reaction because he was way too slow to respond. In a few stations, the people thinned out and I saw the man's face, very tired and exhausted. He came and stood by me, heavily leaning to the corner of the bench, against the pole. T
here was not doubt, he was returning from the damn war. I could read it on his face by how he frowned and moved his weight from one foot to another. He was definitely in pain. Gently, I touched his shoulder: "Have a seat?” - "No". A few more stations passed. I didn't know how to start a conversation.
I found 200 grivnas in my pocket and stood up. Then, I saw an embroidered sign "Kiborg": "Are you going home?" "Yes". "Was it difficult?" "Yes". I didn't know what to say next - everyone around stared and listened to our conversation. So much I wished to hold him, thank him, and cry...
I began cleaning his hat: "Oh, your hat got soiled..." He held his hands in the pockets and I pushed grivnas straight into his hand: "Here, take it, buy some flowers for your wife". The tiredness flew away from his face like a bullet and he yelled out: "No! I have the money! How dare you? You shouldn't!"
My hero was more truthful than me, being lost in the capital among saint corruption. He told me from his heart: "Without you, we are nobody." My senses bounced back and I, weeping like a child, squeezed out of myself: “No, without YOU, we are nobody." I couldn't hold back anymore and walked away wiping the nose and tears.
His words followed: "Thank you, I will buy the flower for my wife".
I weeped for a few more hours after that. With tears there poured unspoken words. How much did I wish to tell him! And I didn't! The only hope was that he heard me with his heart. Our men are the best. We love you and we pray for you. We hold you in our dreams and hearts, and the song "V Zemplyanke" is at stow in compare with our gentleness and love for you. I wish you all return, our dear heroes so you may raise our children as honest as you are.
Listen to me, Kiborg! You was protecting me from Russian ego and invasion and I didn't even have a chance to give you a hug.
Please, return to us alive!
